I hate to be the one to bring this up, but school starts back in about a month. I don’t know why, but summer always seems to fly by so fast. With the school year approaching, I wanted to recommend a few resources to prepare your soul for the task before us — proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who don’t know him.

The Dawkins Delusion?: Atheist Fundamentalism and the Denial of the Divine by Alister McGrath

“Alister McGrath, along with his wife Joanna, are ideal to evaluate Dawkins’s ideas. Once an atheist himself, he gained a doctorate in molecular biophysics before going on to become a leading Christian theologian. He wonders how two people, who have reflected at length on substantially the same world, could possibly have come to such different conclusions about God. McGrath subjects Dawkins’s critique of faith to rigorous scrutiny. His exhilarating, meticulously argued response deals with questions such as:

Is faith intellectual nonsense?
Are science and religion locked in a battle to the death?
Can the roots of Christianity be explained away scientifically?
Is Christianity simply a force for evil?

This book will be warmly received by those looking for a reliable assessment of The God Delusion and the many questions it raises—including, above all, the relevance of faith and the quest for meaning”

Questioning Evangelism by Randy Newman

This is a great book I highly recommend on evangelism. Going to people and asking questions, discerning what they believe, and where they are in life is very helpful when trying to proclaim the gospel to people. Many times, just by asking questions, you can enter into a conversation about who Jesus was, how to know God, sin, forgiveness, etc… This is a very helpful book and an easy read.

Corner Conversations: Engaging Dialogues About God and Life by Randy Newman

A follow-up to the book mentioned above, this gives more examples of ways to enter into conversations about God. For those on the LT, this book will really help you with the way we are going to do bible studies this year…Hint, hint.

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J.I. Packer

This is a classic book on evangelism. Great theology, well written, and very helpful. Understanding this will motivate you to share the gospel, increase your faith while sharing it, and keep your evangelism from becoming man-centered. We want to reach men with the gospel, but we are doing it for the glory of God. He is the only One who can save them and, in His sovereignty, has allowed us to participate in this great task of proclaiming Christ. If you don’t have this book, it’s a must buy.
