Christian, what do you turn to when you are in trouble?

When you are at your wit’s end, do you get: frustrated, exasperated, angry, afraid?

Read these verses and consider the implications for yourself.

Psalm 18 and Ephesians 1:18-23

18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.” (Emphasis mine)

Last week, we considered what the fear of God looks like. He is worthy to be feared. He created and sustains all creation, from the countless, vast, blazing infernos in our universe to the most microscopic replication of bacterial DNA.

He also knows all things! He sees and hears and foreknows every act of every creature in all of creation. He alone is worthy of fear!

And as sinners who have been rescued by the very one that we needed to be saved from,

(Hebrews 10:30 “For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”)

we can let the fierce justice and complete sovereignty of God comfort us in every trial. We are not abandoned. We will not be put to shame. For we have a God and Redeemer who jealously vies for and commands our affection. And He is able and desirous that no thing, no one, no accusation should ever stand between us and His good will for us. HOW COMFORTING!

Men, remember these truths. Let the sure, unchanging, transforming words of scripture influence and inform your feelings, that we may be men who face hard things, with steadfast hope and trust in God.

“Courage is not created by the removal of reasons to fear, or the absence of anxious or fearful feelings, but doing what is right in spite of those fears.” Bill Kittrell

I submit that this is our call, and God is faithful to fill us with the Holy Spirit and transform us!

Romans 8:35 (emphasis mine) “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

AMEN
