C.T. Studd:  “If Jesus Christ be God, and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for him.”

C.H. Spurgeon:  “It is our duty and our privilege to exhaust our lives for Jesus.  We are not to be living specimens of men in fine preservation, but living sacrifices, who lot is to be consumed.”

Thus begins the tension between legalistic motivation for earning favor, or joy-less, duty driven sacrifice, and the joyful surrender of my liberties and selfish motivations for the glory of God through the advancement of the gospel of Christ.

We need the Holy Spirit to do this rightly! Thanks Mike for the reminder of the fact that we need to asses what we hold valuable by looking at what we are sacrificing, and for what purpose.
